REGISTRY

We have been so fortunate and blessed since meeting each other. As an older couple, we have already turned our house into a home. Therefore, the greatest gifts we can receive are your continued friendship and presence at our wedding, truly. However, if you are considering a gift, we graciously suggest making a donation to Basenji Rescue and Transport or Spay Today. These are two really wonderful charities in our local community that we have come to be involved with since bringing home Shelby. Alternatively, we have a very small registry available through Zola.

BASENJI RESCUE AND TRANSPORT

Established in 1999, Basenji Rescue and Transport (BRAT) operates throughout the US and Canada to place approximately 250 dogs annually into new forever homes. BRAT receives Basenjis from relinquishing owners, shelters, and agencies that have removed Basenjis from abusive situations or received them as strays. Upon rescue, each Basenji is given a thorough health checkup and necessary intervention before being transported to a pre-approved foster home. When the Basenji is ready for placement, all applications are reviewed to find the best home. BRAT also works with owners after adoption to ensure both the owner and dog thrive well in their new environment together.

We had the wonderful opportunity to become Shelby's forever home in 2017. Basenjis are a unique breed known as the 'barkless dog'. They are smart, lovable, and, at times, just downright stubborn due to their fiercely independent nature. Despite the challenges, Basenjis bring skilled and prepared owners so much joy with their personalities.

SPAY TODAY

Established in 1994, Spay Today simply began as a mission by two women, Anne Small and Susan Goodman, to address the rampant overpopulation of cats and kittens in Jefferson County, West Virginia. With one part-time staffer and two vets, Spay Today began its life-saving work by providing reduced-cost spay and neuter services for both cats and dogs.

At the request of Anne Small and Susan Goodman, The National Humane Education Society (NHES) took over the operation of Spay Today in 2001.  Today, Spay Today is one of NHES’ lifesaving programs and operates from the NHES Campus in Charles Town, West Virginia. Spay Today has grown significantly over the years and now has a staff of five employees, 20-plus participating veterinary clinics, and a service area that includes portions of the quad-state—West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia—and beyond.

In 2014, Spay Today surpassed a major milestone by providing its 50,000th spay procedure.  Today, through its charitable work, Spay Today provides nearly 5,000 reduced-cost spay and neuter procedures per year—and continues to grow.

Anne's Fund was created in honor of co-founder Anne Small to provide even further financial assistance to community members in need who are looking to spay or neuter their companion animals. To make a donation specific to Anne's Fund, select it from the drop-down box on the Donate page of Spay Today's website.

Be sure to drop us an email if you choose to contribute to either of these worthy non-profit organizations so we can properly thank you!
